Black Friday Nonsense

Being in the UK Black Friday is a relatively new thing, but it already feels like it's gotten out of hand this year and it's getting worse it seems.

The Madness of Black Friday...

It seems, anecdotally at least, that Black Friday is a Recent creation in the UK - I'm aware it's been around a long time in the US. Over here we preferred our Post Christmas Boxing Day sales, which are still a thing, but the problem now is that the more sales we have the less they seem to actually be reduced by.

At the time of writing (16th November 2025) Online stores in the UK have been advertising Black Friday sales, and now Early Black Friday sales, naturally everything in these Early Black Friday sales isn't quite as cheap as I'd expect for Black Friday, so do I purchase now or wait for the day itself and potentially miss out on the sales.

When did sales be so "not sale-y"?

And yes that header above is the actual technical term I just invented.
Only a few years back I remember  Black Friday Sales being stupidly cheap, fancy a new tv? Formerly £400-500 would be reduced to about £150 as an example, now in these EARLY BLACK FRIDAY! sales maybe about £100 off (20-30%) now I could hang on till Black Friday proper and splurge then, but it may not be reduced.

The art of selling is the art of persuasion

The same could be said for Steam Sales if I'm honest - and that is something I know about, maybe I'll do a bit for Steam's Winter Sale too. These days Companies are just about making more money than ever before (arguably this has always been the case) the cost of living has gone up, people's budgets are stretched ever further and companies have realised that people will snap up your product if it's Discounted... or more to the point if you discount it down to the price it should've been in the first place (ooh catty)

Now don't get me wrong, I'm not telling you not to spend your hard earned money on the sales, god knows I probably will be - I've been eyeing up a new ice cream maker and have definitely been looking for one of those 4k Sports Camera things. Just a warning that these companies know a lot more about you than you know, and when these people say they don't like having a Loyalty card because they can find out about you, just don't worry about it... they already know WAY more about you than you know.
